• Mindfulness is a state of relaxed, nonjudgemental awareness.

Somatic means related to the body, which, whether we are aware of it or not, is constantly feeling sensations.

Through direct experience of the body’s sensations in mindfulness as well as awareness of the body’s postures and gestures, we can experience the root causes underlying our habitual feelings, thoughts and behavior in a way that is not typically available through conversation alone.

  • My work is client-directed. That means that you define what success looks like. You decide what you value, how you understand your past, and how you relate to the present moment. I can help you clarify your intentions and goals, but cannot create them for you.

  • This work is about the present moment, here & now. The past, present, and future are all here in this moment. Your past will likely come up at times but we do not need to talk about your past to heal it. Through this work, you can create the future you desire, not by planning your future but by learning to fully inhabit each present moment.

  • This work can be really challenging and sometimes things feel worse before they feel better. So I require my clients to show up with real commitment to showing up, being fully present, and doing their work in and out of session. And my commitment is to meet you in that.

For outside of sessions, I give “homework.” The most important & valuable work is the work that you do between sessions. You’ll find that more often than not, you’re coming up with the homework yourself or we’re coming up with it together. Homework can include reading, podcasts, journal prompts, rituals, and micro-steps (small behavior changes). I ask for a check-in email between sessions.

  • While that depends on what “it” is, I generally believe that self-discovery and growth are lifelong paths. Still, this work is about giving you the tools to do the work on your own. Our work together is to support you in being in the world the way you want to be in the world independently, not to be dependent on me or anyone else forever. In our sessions, you will learn how to explore and regulate your emotions, navigate challenging conversations, and listen to your intuition all on your own.

  • You are already whole. There is nothing to fix or get rid of. I'm interested in supporting you to gain awareness of how you operate and supporting you in moving you towards whatever it is that you want.

All your “parts” / “personas” are welcome, including the sad, angry, scared, anxious, etc. parts.

You have all the wisdom you need inside of yourself and this wisdom will guide our work together. The “work” is about learning how to listen to that inner wisdom.

"Healing" is non-linear and directed by our systems as they develop capacity to engage in various content at various levels.

It’s incredibly powerful to have someone “in your corner” who is as invested in your growth as you are.

Pain and patterns and assumptions created in relationships need to be resolved / repaired in relationships.

While there is naturally a power dynamic, as much as possible, I want this to feel like what it is: I am a friend on the path and we are in it together.

  • I see myself as a friend on the path, a supporter and a guide. You are the expert in your own experience.

My role is to support and encourage your process of connecting to your own inner wisdom, hold space for you - because there are places we can go together that we cannot go ourselves, guide you in mindfulness and self-reflection, support you in cultivating and deepening new patterns, offer you tools for emotional self-regulation and relating with others, reflect what I notice and make connections, and support your sense of safety - that all parts of you are welcome.

I will also invite you to share what you need from me.

  • It depends on your goals for our work together and what you’re showing up with that day.

In general, you can expect most of each session to be spent in mindfulness in a process of "assisted self-discovery." We will typically begin and end each session with conversation. At the end of each session, there is time to integrate and agree on homework.

  • No. Therapists treat and diagnose mental health conditions, and have specific education and training to meet licensure requirements. I do not diagnose or treat and I do not have that education or training.

If you are looking for a therapist and not sure where to start, I’m happy to direct you to resources.

  • I see people both in-person and virtually. If you are based in NYC and able to meet in-person, I highly recommend that.
